For a history class assignment, Northwestern College students conduct interviews with area Vietnam veterans. The list of available interviews is below. Currently, interviews are only available in audio format. We hope to transcribe the interviews in the future. When he was 21, Arlyn Kleinwolterink joined the Air National Guard. He was sent to Vietnam in January 1968 after the USS Pueblo was captured by North Korea. He specialized in engine repair for military planes.

Dave Kluis went to Saigon as an American soldier in 1969. As a first-generation American, Dave was glad to be able to serve his country. In his interview, he elaborates on his experiences in Vietnam and on how the public and media viewed the war.
 
Koster, Leon .mp3 | .wma Matt Hoehamer 04/24/2007
At age 25, Leon Koster was drafted into the Army. After completing basic training and officers training in the United States, he received orders for Vietnam. He served in the 1st Air Cavalry and spent time on a rifle squad along the Ho Chi Minh trail.

In 1965, Don Mulder joined the Air Force's 185th Division. In Vietnam, he worked with munitions for F100 fighter planes.

Bob Rohrs was drafted into the Army in November 1965. For 1 year, he served in the 5th Battalion of the 71st Artillery in Vietnam.
 
Schelling, Bob .mp3 | .wma James Bierly 04/06/2007
Bob Schelling served in the Army in Vietnam in 1966. He worked as a weapons repairman for helicopters, spending most of his time in Vietnam at a small village about 18 miles north of Saigon and the last few months at Vung Tau.

Bernie Schiebout was drafted into the Army in 1968. He served in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, based at Camp Eagle.
 
Van Kalsbeek, John .mp3 | .wma Brianne Van Wyk 04/10/2007
John Van Kalsbeek enlisted in the Air Force. As part of the 185th Securtiy Policy Squadron, he patrolled and guarded bases in Vietnam.
 
Van Regenmorter, Roger .mp3 | .wma Emily Todd 03/31/2007
Roger Van Regenmorter was drafted into the Army in November 1965. He served in the 2nd of the 18th, 1st Infantry Division. His unit served all over Vietnam, securing areas and building base camps.
