As the long-serving director of Northwestern's theatre department, Theora England influenced her many students and her colleagues:

Keith Allen

Keith Allen joined the faculty at Northwestern in 1967, during a period when the theatre department had gained a reputation for excellence. Hired as an assistant professor of speech, Allen was also the technical director for theatre productions. He worked closely with England until her retirement in 1974.

In 2009, Keith Allen was interviewed for this project. The interview covers his initial impressions of England, their working relationship, students' views of England and her interactions with others at Northwestern College. He also describes the legacy left by Dr. England. The transcript of the interview is avaiable as a .pdf document; read the interview here.

Students

Having served at Northwestern for 32 years, Professor England developed strong relationships with her students. One student wrote the following in a letter to Dr. England:

I guess what I have been really tring to say Dr. E is thank you very much. There has never been another person that has so greatly turned me on to life the way you did and I am ever grateful.

Many students expressed similar sentiments. View additional letters from students here.
